Sora Yu has been creating artworks based on the theme of daily life, starting from when she drew a messy room in a small notebook. While maintaining the use of everyday places, objects, and motifs as the main components of the work, the message intended to be conveyed through them has undergone continuous change. In particular, witnessing the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011, the sinking of a South Korean passenger ship in 2014, and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and wars change or destroy our daily lives, she came to think more deeply about what daily life is and how fragile it is.
She presents both two-dimensional and three-dimensional works that capture moments of everyday life through the medium of fabric and stitching techniques. The harmony between white fabric and black thread creates a distinct, striking visual impact, while the hand-stitching conveys a profound sense of density that transcends mere delicacy. Her unique artistic vision—consistently grounded in fabric and stitching—manifests in diverse variations across a broad spectrum, ranging from small-scale pieces to large-scale spatial installations. She seeks to reflect upon, overcome, find solace in, and preserve the memory of daily life—a reality that can, at times, be disrupted or unravel over even the most trivial matters.
