Everyone is a moon, and has a dark side which he never shows to anybody.

Mark Twain(1835-1910)

Alexis Jang has been eternally drawn to light and dark, both metaphorically and visually. Often using herself and her surroundings as a subject, her work is a meditation on the clash of internal and external worlds that she often finds possessing contrasting qualities. Subconscious mind also plays a role in her practice as well, as it represents the inner psyche that is beyond the control of our conscious mind which always looks for a neat, presentable explanation. Almost exclusively using the night as a backdrop, Alexis Jang finds comfort in the quiet darkness where a tiny source of light can have immense power in what we focus on, or not.

Anon Lee began her work feeling a sense of kinship with the appearance of the withered and dead tree. Based on her thoughts about death and the contradictions she felt in life, she works to simultaneously reveal the end and beginning of death. Just as dead trees become habitats for animals and support the birth of new plants, such as mushrooms, tree clearly demonstrates the circularity of life, starting from soil and returning to a handful of soil. Birth and death are important motifs in her work. Although it resembles nature, the desolate and empty world in her painting is unnatural and unrealistic. Albino animals look heterogeneous and unfamiliar, yet exist in a natural order. Albino is the artist herself and a symbol of human beings, delivering a hopeful message about solidarity where we can embrace and respect beings who are different from us and live together.

Luke Chueh explores the complexities of the human condition through a blend of whimsy and darkness. His work features anthropomorphized animal characters that initially attract with their cuteness but ultimately challenge viewers with narratives delving into absurdity, humor, melancholy, and hostility. Drawing from personal experiences, Chueh strives to present an authentic portrayal of the trials and traumas that shape us. Through his art, he confronts the internal battles we all face, seeking to uncover the deeper, often darker, facets of being human. His goal is to create a dialogue with the audience, encouraging reflection on their own struggles and the shared experiences that connect us all.
